Announcing Our Newest Addition!

No, it’s not another puppy, although I’ll never get tired of sweet puppy breath and new chew toys! But this is definitely a new addition to our business! It’s been a huge labor of love and a leap of faith unlike anything we’ve experienced in our lives!

It’s our new Training Room!

Needless to say, we are thrilled with this new venture! While we will continue to teach classes at Cascade Kennels, we will now be able to add additional class times, which means smaller “wait lists” and happier, more balanced canine family members!

The new building had it’s first group training class last Thursday and we had a ball! Our Java Jumpstart students had no idea they were the first people (and puppies, of course) to step inside the new building! Our favorite part of the class was the “group play time”, when the puppies were unleashed inside the room to play, run, and socialize to their heart’s content!

Here are some photos from our unofficial “grand opening!”

Just SOME of our adorable students!

Some of our students need Dave’s magic touch… Clearly, it’s quite effective…

Halfway through the class, we split into two groups. While our friend Eve Pickard discussed “crate training” with half the students in the Training Room, the other half went out to our “Dream Field” for some basics in Name Recognition training! Eventually, each group swapped, so everyone received the same amount of information.

Here’s Becky working with  “Sonny”, helping her recognize her name when called!

TRAINING TIP: Remember! Never use your puppy’s name as a correction! Always use their name as a REWARD! You want your puppy to LOVE the sound of his or her name! NOT dread it!

“Sonny” started to recognize her name in just TWO minutes of Name Recognition training! Good girl, “Sonny!”

After Becky and “Sonny” showed everyone how it’s done, everyone else got to practice! And we were very pleased with how the whole class did! Great work, Java Jumpstarters!

What a great day we all had! We loved seeing all the new faces and we can’t wait for our second Java Jumpstart class tomorrow night! We’ll be going over passive restraint, jumping, biting/mouthing, including the dreaded “ankle attacks!”

Of course, we always love to end on a CUTE note. And  “Quincy” fits the bill!;)
